Mold – what to know, what to do and what not to do
What to know about mold
- Mold spores occur naturally almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air. They can enter your home through your doors, windows or HVAC system, they can even hitch a ride on your pets or your clothing.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture and can quickly develop into colonies when exposed to water.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor.
- Higher than normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Indoor humidity should be kept below 45 percent.
- Before mold remediation can begin, the source must be addressed, otherwise the mold could return.
What to do about mold
- Call SERVPRO of Canton to inspect, access and remediate your mold issue.
- If you see mold, do not disturb it, otherwise you could spread the mold throughout your home.
- Stay out of the affected area.
- Turn off the HVAC system and fans to reduce the chance of spreading the spores.
What not to do about mold
- Don’t touch or disturb the mold

Basement after water mitigation
Faster to ANY disaster™!
SERVPRO of Washtenaw Co. provides 24-hour water damage restoration services in and around Washtenaw County Michigan.
Flooding and water emergencies don’t wait for regular business hours and neither do we. SERVPRO of Washtenaw Co. provides emergency cleaning and restoration services 24/7 365 days, including holidays!
Water damages are very invasive and can spread quickly throughout your home or business. Water gets absorbed into your floors, walls and furniture, saturating everything in its path.
Within minutes the finishes on your furniture may start to bleed, causing permanent staining on carpets. Also, photos, books and other paper products can begin to swell and warp.
Within 24 hours, drywall will begin to swell and break down, metal surfaces will begin to tarnish, and a musty odor can appear.
If a water damage goes unattended for 1 week or more, mold and mildew may start to grow and spread and restoration time and costs will increase.
The longer the delay in mitigating a water damage, the more costly it becomes. SERVPRO of Washtenaw Co. will arrive quickly and can start the water extraction process almost immediately.
SERVPRO of Washtenaw Co.’s fast response will help to minimize the damage and the cleaning and restoration costs.
Don’t delay, call SERVPRO of Washtenaw Co. at 1-800-714-5341 ASAP!
