Stoves/Ovens are often the cause of a fire damage

What do you do after you have a fire in your home?

Once you have called the fire department and the fire is out, what are the next steps?

If/when it is safe to return to your home:

1. Limit your movements to prevent soot from being ground into surfaces.

2. Don't attempt to wash any walls or surfaces.

3. If the power is off, empty the refrigerator and freezer and prop open the doors.

4. Don't use any canned or packaged food or beverages.

5. Don't clean or use any appliances or electronic devises until they have been checked out.

6. Don't turn on ceiling fans.

7. Move valuables to a safe place.

8. Don't send garments to an ordinary dry cleaners.

9. Change the HVAC filter.
